Memorial Day 2019

Each year, I typically write a blog post today with photos of my Dear Father In Law in the Memorial Day Parade, proudly wearing his American Legion uniform. He was the most patriotic person that I've ever known. Sadly we lost him at the age of 91 this past September. Mr S and I went to the cemetery to visit his grave this weekend. I know he is very proud to know that the American flag is proudly displayed at his grave site. We love and miss him but his memories live on in our hearts.

Abington Swans Are Born! Island Grove, Abington MA

My hometown swans are a beloved pair, who reside at the pond at Island Grove. Each year, many of us are happy to see when the cygnets are born. There's just something special about seeing the adorable new life around the pond.

There were seven eggs this year, but sadly only 2 cygnets are alive. Three were born....one died shortly after birth, and the remaining 4 eggs were not viable.

These were taken the following morning:

Climbing onto Mamas back....

The shutter speed was slow enough to catch the spray as Mama was fanning her tail....

The second cygnet is tucked under Mamas wing, barely visible just under where her beak is resting in this photo....

A mother's love....

Wicked Tulips Farm Johnston RI

A few weeks ago I went to visit Wicked Tulips Farm with Miss J and the three kids. Tulips galore.... and as I always blog every year, I encourage you to go visit next year. This year an adults admission included ten picked tulips, which was really great. Any additional tulips that you picked were a dollar each.

Now onto the Grands. It's nearly impossible for me to get a decent photo of the three of them together. Ryleigh is always willing to pose for me, but Stevie and Joey, not so much. :-)

Something tells me that rock was more interesting to the boys than my camera. :-)

Stevie was on the run a lot.....

Joey is not quite walking on his own yet, but was able to stand alone for a few photos....

My cooperative Ryleigh....

A few other random shots from the day....

MIT Cambridge and Charles River Boston sunset

I went into Boston late Saturday afternoon with some camera club friends. Our first stop was to photograph the unique architecture at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

There is a memorial for MIT Police officer Sean Collier whose life was taken too soon by the Boston Marathon bombers on April 18, three days after the Boston Marathon terror attack.

Carved into the rear wall is an epitaph from Sean's brother's eulogy:

Some of the quirky unique architecture:

My friend David who always is willing to model for photos:

This next photo is interesting to me. As I was framing the shot to show the juxtaposition of the bikes in the forefront and the bikes across the street, a biker rode into the scene. I quickly pressed the shutter to capture him before I was finally set up, but think the photo still came out pretty good.

After a delicious dinner at Blaze pizza, we headed to Memorial Drive for a walk along the Charles at sunset:

I also stepped out towards the street to get some long exposure light trails from the vehicles passing by:

One final shot of the Boston skyline after sunset:

It was a perfect evening.

Fox Kits

My son has a fox den at his house. I've gone down with my camera a few times to take some photos.

The first photos I took....

Two kits sleeping at the den:

walking on the hillside:

Stopping and staring at me after hearing the sound of my shutter:

Hanging out at the den:

Here are a few photos taken a few days ago.....

I shot this from my sons front porch looking up his front yard:

At the den. The black to the right of this kit is the entrance to the den:

Going up the hill towards the den entrance. You can see the entrance at the top of this photo:

Another shot I took up the hill from the front yard:

I was down there for a few hours early this morning but didn't get any decent photos. The kits were around for the most part but were mostly hanging around the den. They were playing and wrestling but the branches and brush were in the way. My goal is to catch them paying and wrestling out in the open. I'll keep trying.
