I always look forward to photographing the nesting swans every Spring. They were gathering materials and working on building the nest when I was down there today.

It's such a wonderful sight to see.

As the foliage begins to grow, the nest will not be as easy to view.

Nikon D7100

Hello! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. I had a busy weekend, but a very good one. Last week I purchased a used Mint Condition Nikon D7100 and have not had a chance to get out and shoot with it. I did however take it to N's birthday party on Saturday night, and I took it to my sister's house yesterday for Easter.

These are just a few family snapshots, but I wanted to post them on the blog because they are the first pictures I have taken with the new camera. As much as I loved my D90, it was time for an upgrade. My main interest in upgrading was to be able to shoot at a higher ISO.

This image was taken at ISO 1000. It is a big improvement at ISO 1000 over the D90.

These two were taken at ISO 2000. (ISO 2000 with the D90 revealed too much noise and the photos would be unusable)

I'm really looking forward to a photo outing with the new camera. I'm hoping I have time this week.

It's lambing season!!!! Did you even know there was a lambing season? Well, I didn't know this fact until recently. But I guess it makes perfect sense. It's Spring....so yes, it's lambing season.

We saw some two week old adorable lambs at the farm this weekend. They were in a stall with the Mama's in the barn. Their cuteness is undeniable. But the other really amazing thing about seeing these lambs was the two Border Collies who were guarding the pen. They took such pride in their work. They NEVER took their eyes off the lambs. It was so cool to see them working.

Now I am a very indecisive person, and I don't know if I prefer this photo in the original color version, or in the old fashioned sepia toned version. So I will share both.

Golden Comets

Day 13/365

These three hens (I think they are Golden Comets) were just hanging out in the barn at The Neal Perry Farm in Orleans VT. Golden Comets are excellent layers of brown eggs. Most of the country consumes white eggs.......but not here in New England. We know that "brown eggs are local eggs and local eggs are fresh."

Golden Buckets Sugarhouse, Barton VT

Day 12/365

We stopped to visit and photograph Golden Buckets Sugarhouse on Saturday morning. There was nobody there, so we did not go inside....just photographed outside this 70 year old sugarhouse. It is like a step back in time. There is no electricity here, and the sap is still gathered in buckets.

Here is just one part of a very long stack of wood just waiting to be used to fire up the boiler.

I just love the look of sap buckets in the Spring.
