Once Upon A Winter's Day

Mansfield Old Country Store

There seems to be less and less country stores around New England these days. It always makes me sad to hear of a country store closing it's doors for good. Today I took a ride with my good friend Nancy I to Mansfield MA, to check out the Old Country Store and Emporium, http://www.oldcountrystoreonline.com/

You have to drive a silver vehicle to be allowed to shop here. Luckily I do. :-)

I loved every nook and cranny of this place. It is a whole lot bigger than it looks from the outside. There are so many different rooms to browse through. You could spend hours looking around in this adorable old country store. One of my favorite rooms is located in the front of the store. There is an old fashioned candy counter with every kind of candy and home made fudge imaginable. 

My friend Nancy got so excited to look at the candy counter that she put her head down too quickly  and smashed it against the glass. The glass didn't shatter but I think she might have a head ache tonight. These are typical things that happen when chocolate is involved. We just can't control ourselves. I'm sure you can relate and understand. I bet you have gotten a concussion yourself due to chocolate excitement. It happens to the best of us.:-) 

Look at the wide plank wood floors. Love them!

 This is a great place to visit. Hope you can make it here sometime soon.

Hope your head doesn't hurt Nancy. If it does, just eat some chocolate. It will make you feel better. Ha!

Sea Smoke Scituate MA

Sea smoke is fog which forms when very cold air moves over warmer water. We were fortunate (some might say unfortunate) to experience this phenomenon on Sunday here in New England. I went out to shoot sunrise at the ocean, for the second annual tribute to my Mothers Life and Love on the anniversary of her death. Once again, my sister Kathleen braved the elements and accompanied me.

When I left my house at 5:30 AM the newscaster was reporting that the windchill in Boston was 35 below zero......and my car thermometer was reading 12 below zero for the actual outdoor temperature. As I was driving East, I could actually see the sea smoke in the air off in the distance. I knew it was going to be a special morning!

It was a magical morning. The fog was dancing and rolling, and as the sun was getting higher in the sky, the colors were changing rapidly.

Life And Death

Yesterday we were under a blizzard warning here in SE MA. We had several inches of snow and a lot of strong winds in my area. Yesterday was also the funeral for my dear Step Mother In Law. I grabbed a few flowers from some of the beautiful arrangements that were sent to bring home and photograph. The first thing I wanted to do was place a rose in the snow. I was envisioning what I wanted, and I pretty much got what I envisioned. Will be printing and framing some images for family members as a special reminder of such a wonderful woman.

Black and White Landscape

Week 5 of 52 week photo challenge. The theme for this week is "Landscape.....Black and White"

We are in the midst of a snowstorm today here in Southern New England. I went out this morning with my camera before the roads got too bad to get this weeks challenge photo.

Life has been hectic the past few weeks and there has not been a heck of a lot of time for photography. My Dad is recovering and is scheduled to go home on Tuesday. On a much sadder note, my dear Step-Mother In Law has passed away. She has provided my Father In Law with many years of love and happiness. She is the definition of kindness and will be greatly missed by all.
