Shequaga Falls/Travel Tuesday 11/20/18

Welcome to another "Travel Tuesday" here on the blog......a day where photos taken outside of New England are featured.

Last month during our trip to upper State NY, one of the many waterfalls we visited was Shequaga Falls, located in the village of Montour Falls, in Watkins Glen NY. Our first visit was in the daylight.

This is a lovely waterfall, located literally off the side of a road.

A few nights after our day visit here, we went back to photograph the falls which are lit up beautifully at night. It had been a very long day of photographing on this particular day, so it was nice to have these falls so easily accessible.

Juvenile Black Skimmers

I got word of a pair of Black Skimmers hanging around at Nelson Beach in Plymouth. I'm not much of a birder, but I do enjoy photographing them......and quite honestly, up until the other day, I had never even heard of a Black Skimmer before. So naturally, I headed down to the beach to see them for myself.

These are some really cool birds! Their bill is knife thin and their lower mandible is longer than their upper.

Their bill allows them to drag their lower bill through the water as it flies, allowing them  to hopefully catch a fish. I was happy to be able to see them "skimming".

It was a beautiful day......unlike today with 6 inches of snow on the ground. No snow photos for me yet. I'm in denial I think.

Watkins Glen NY **TRAVEL TUESDAY**

Today's blog post take us out of New England again....continuing on our Travel Tuesday posts with images taken in the Finger Lakes Region of NY.

Watkins Glen State Park is a photographer's paradise. It was everything I imagined, and more. The glen's stream descends 400 feet past massive 200 foot cliffs. There are 19 waterfalls and there are 832 stairs to climb.....but who's counting? :-)

The entrance:

Just a few of the 832 stairs.....luckily they are not all in a row.

Notice another set of steps on the left hand side of this image....

More photos taken along the trail....

Notice the waterfall in the distance above the left side of the bridge of this next photo

This is that fall in the next two images

What an incredible day we had in this gorge. We spent about 4 1/2 hours here, but one could certainly spend an entire day photographing at this location.

Tamarack Trees in Vermont

I'm not often in Vermont in early November, but I went up with Mr S this weekend to get some chores done on the house. This wasn't a weekend of photography......well, it was in my head, but it wasn't was Mr. S had in mind. We did however take a drive earlier today so that I could take some photos. (Thank you very much Mr. S)  As always, enlarge photos for better viewing.

As you can see, we got a bit of snow at the higher elevations this weekend.

You can also see snow along the Willoughby Gap in this next photo:

Burke Mountain:

November's beauty in the Northeast Kingdom. Another reason to love it up there!
