Scituate Harbor, MA

Had a wonderful evening the other night with my girlfriends. We had dinner on the deck of The Mill Warf Restaurant located in Scituate Harbor.

After dinner we walked along the waterfront. It was a spectacular evening with a beautiful breeze.

Is Fall Approaching?

Today is a beautiful top ten day here in Southern New England. When I went out this morning, my car exterior temp was reading 58 degrees. There is no humidity today and as I write this the temp. is 80 degrees with deep blue sky and plentiful sunshine.

We are in a pretty severe drought here in my neck of the woods and if we don't get much rain soon, we just may beat the record for the least amount of rainfall during the Summer in Boston. Not a record we want to break.

The trees are stressed and some are already starting to change to their Fall colors. The good news is that there has been more rainfall up in Northern New England this Summer than we have had down here in Southern New England, although there is still a deficit in rainfall up there.

Here's a sample of some Fall color I found two weeks ago up in the NEK of VT.

Of course this is not the norm, but it's just one of the signs that Fall is not far off!

White Meadowsweet

I never knew what this wildflower was called until I did a Google image search to ID it for this blog post. This was shot using a very narrow depth of field focusing on the forefront flowers that I found poking out along a little metal fence in a field in Vermont.

Darling Hill Road East Burke VT

One of my most favorite places for photography in Vermont is along Darling Hill Road which runs from East Burke to Lyndonville. This is a beautiful ridge road that has sweeping views of Burke Mountain to the East, and The Willowby Gap to the West. There are two beautiful inns located along this road, as well as several farms. This road is truly a photographers paradise.

Last week I made two stops along this road to make some photos. The first stop was this farm. I love the red barn and we had a beautiful blue sky and some nice whispy clouds.

Further up the road this mailbox surrounded by the lillies and the pretty red barn caught my eye.

I've said it before but it's worth saying again. When you are out photographing in Vermont, you must get off the main roads and explore the side roads. That is where you will find some beautiful hidden spots to photograph.

The Burke Hollow Meeting House, Vermont

The Burke Hollow Meeting House was built in 1825 by four different congregations. The various congregations eventually built their own churches, and the building has not been in regular use since 1870. It remains a beautiful example of Early New England architecture and is occasionally used today for weddings.

I have been wanting to photograph the Milky Way over a white steepled New England church, and I figured this would be the perfect place. However, I didn't realize that there was a very bright street light out in the front of the building, as well as a spotlight on the ground. This harsh light was very obtrusive and it was very difficult to get the photographs that I had imagined in my mind. I tried as hard as I could and this was the best I could get, under the circumstances.

Here is the front of the Meting House, with a starry sky, taken before the Milky Way was in the position I needed.

The Milky Way

There is a very old burial ground behind the meeting house. While I was focusing my attention on capturing the Milky Way, my friends were making "ghostly" images in the burial ground. They got some great images using slow shutter speeds and movements that they should be very proud of, They came out great. By the time I joined them, they were trying some different techniques. I took a few shots with them, but it was very late, and we were exhausted so we headed home. This is one of my "ghost" images, but I liked the ones that they did before I arrived better than this one. I think the "ghost" should have been moving at a faster rate of speed in this shot, but it's still kind of cool.

One final shot of the Milky Way and the graveyard.

AM Foster Covered Bridge Cabot VT

Last week I went from shooting the Zakim Bridge in Boston at night, to shooting a lovely little covered bridge up in Cabot VT at night. Truth be told, I was happier shooting the bridge in VT. As much as I love my city of Boston, I get a feeling of peace when I am shooting in VT that I don't get anyplace else.

We arrived up to Cabot Plains Road just in time for sunset.

We waited around for about three hours to shoot the Milky Way. It was worth the wait.

Zakim Bridge Boston MA

Hello there. It's been a very long week for me. Sorry for my absence here on the blog. I've been very busy shooting this week, and have a lot of material to share with you.

These photos were taken a week ago today, when I went to shoot the Zakim Bridge at night. I drive OVER the Zakim bridge every time we go to Vermont, but this is the first time I have ever gone UNDER the bridge. It was a very cool experience.

This is the view of the bridge from the Science Park along the Charles River.

We then walked along the walkway which leads you to below the bridge to get to the other side.

Once you get to the other side of the bridge, you are in Paul Revere Park in Charlestown.

I can not lie. My anxiety was a bit over the top during this photo shoot. I have a fear of heights and just being so close to this bridge, as well as being on the walkway that connects one side of the bridge to the other side caused me to go into a little panic attack. But I survived and am so glad that I had this amazing photo experience.

Antique Snowmobile Show Lancaster NH

I recently spent the day at the Antique Snowmobile Show and Flea Market at the Lancaster Fairgrounds in Lancaster NH with Mr. S. We arrived at 7:30 AM and left at 4:30 PM.

Let me start this post by saying that this is NOT my idea of a fun day.......but Mr S is supportive of my photography, so I owe him big time. I promised that I wouldn't complain and would make the best of the day.

I guess you could say I was kind of like this dog.....

As I walked around the exhibits, I tried to make some friends but the people I met were so fake and unfriendly. This girl in particular wouldn't even speak to me!

I also caught her checking out Mr. S. Don't let her fool you with her fancy animal skin pants and sunglasses. This girl was trouble!

I also tried to make friends with this girl, but she was so plastic and wouldn't even smile!

Hmpf!

I then decided to walk around for a while with Mr S and when I spotted THIS I knew it was JUST what I need to get back and forth to the hospital (I am essential personnel after all) during the winter snowstorms. But for some reason Mr S refused to buy this for me. He can be so frugal!

We saw many indoor displays

And many outdoor displays

In all seriousness, I actually had a very nice relaxing day. I brought a good book to read, a comfy chair, and a cooler full of cold water and snacks. There was a gorgeous breeze and low humidity that day. And the best part of the day was seeing Mr. S so happy in his element, and he actually made a sale of the sled that he brought to sell.

And I never complained once.

A few dragonflies that I photographed this weekend.
